The Albanian Football League 2nd Division - Group A is the second tier of professional football in Albania. It was founded in 1928, when the Albanian Football Association (AFA) was established. The first ever game of the 2nd Division was played on April 15th, 1928 between the teams of Tirana and Vlora. The inaugural season was won by Tirana.
The league is currently composed of 12 teams, divided into two groups of six. The top two teams from each group are promoted to the Albanian Superliga, while the bottom two teams are relegated to the Third Division. The teams play each other twice, once at home and once away, for a total of 22 games per season.
The league is managed by the AFA, which is responsible for the organization and promotion of the competition. The AFA also sets the rules and regulations for the league, such as the number of teams, the number of games, and the promotion and relegation rules. The AFA also appoints referees for each game.
The Albanian Football League 2nd Division - Group A is one of the most competitive leagues in Albania and has produced many great players over the years. It is a great platform for young players to showcase their talents and gain experience before making the jump to the top tier.
The 2022-2023 season of the Albanian Second Division Group A has kicked off on October 1st, 2022, and it is set to conclude on April 30th, 2023. Eleven teams are competing for the championship and, so far, 110 out of the total of 40 matches have been played. At the moment, the top three teams in the standings are separated by only two points. Sopoti Librazhd is in the lead with 16 points, followed by Vora and Vora with 14 points each. However, with 70 matches still to be played, anything can happen in the remaining weeks of the season.
