Ligue A is the top football league in Burundi. It was founded in 1972 and is currently composed of 16 teams. The league is run by the Burundi Football Federation (FFB).
The first Ligue A season took place in 1972, with six teams competing. The first champions were AS Inter Star, who won the title with a 5-0 win over Muzinga FC in the final. Since then, the league has grown to include 16 teams, with the most recent champions being AS Inter Star, who won the 2019-20 season.
The league is divided into two divisions, the Premier Division and the First Division. The Premier Division is the top tier of the league, with the top four teams qualifying for the Champions League. The First Division is the second tier of the league, with the top two teams qualifying for the Europa League. The bottom two teams in the Premier Division are relegated to the First Division, while the top two teams in the First Division are promoted to the Premier Division.
The league is managed by the FFB, which is responsible for the organization of the league and the scheduling of matches. The FFB also organizes the annual Ligue A Cup, which is a knockout tournament featuring the top teams in the league.
Ligue A is one of the most competitive leagues in Africa, with teams from across the continent competing for the title each year. The league has produced some of the best players in the world, including Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o, and Yaya Touré.
The 2022 Ligue A Burundi season ended on November 20th with Bumamuru emerging as champions, having won 8 out of 13 matches. The season was incredibly close, with only 6 points separating the top three teams in the standings. This season saw some of Burundi’s most exciting football, with the top three teams all vying for the championship. Bumamuru’s 8 wins put them in the lead, but the competition was fierce. The second and third placed teams, Musongati and Musenyi, were only separated by a single point, making for an incredibly close race. The season was an exciting one for Burundi’s football fans, with the top three teams all pushing each other to their limits. Bumamuru’s victory was well-deserved, and they will now look to defend their title in the upcoming season.
