The Supercopa de Costa Rica is the top tier professional football league in Costa Rica. It was founded in 1997 and is currently composed of 12 teams. The league is governed by the Costa Rican Football Federation (FEDEFUT).
The inaugural season of the Supercopa de Costa Rica began on August 9, 1997 with the first game between Herediano and Saprissa. Herediano won the match 2-1 and went on to win the first championship that season. Since then, the league has grown in popularity and is now one of the most watched leagues in Central America.
The Supercopa de Costa Rica is divided into two stages. The Apertura and Clausura. The Apertura is the first stage of the season and is played between August and December. The Clausura is the second stage of the season and is played between January and May. At the end of each stage, the team with the most points is crowned champion.
The Supercopa de Costa Rica is currently composed of 12 teams. The teams are divided into two divisions, the North and South. Each team plays each other team in their division twice during the season. At the end of the season, the top four teams from each division qualify for the playoffs. The playoffs are a single-elimination tournament and the winner is crowned champion.
The Supercopa de Costa Rica is one of the most competitive and exciting leagues in Central America. It has produced some of the best players in the region and continues to be a source of entertainment and pride for Costa Ricans.
The Football Federation of Peru (FPF) is the official organization in charge of the Supercopa Peru qualifying tournament and manages sponsorship rights. The FPF has partnered with several television networks to broadcast the tournament, including America Television, ATV, and Gol Perú. These networks have provided viewers with exclusive coverage of the tournament, including interviews with players and coaches, as well as highlights of the matches.
