The Second Croatian Football League (Second NL) was founded in 1992, shortly after the independence of Croatia from Yugoslavia. The league was founded with the aim of providing a professional football platform for teams from the second tier of Croatian football. The league is divided into two divisions, West and East, and each division consists of 12 teams.
The first season of the Second NL began in 1992, with the first games taking place in April of that year. The first champions of the league were NK Zagreb, who won the West Division, and NK Osijek, who won the East Division. Since then, the league has grown in popularity and is now one of the most popular football leagues in Croatia.
The Second NL is currently managed by the Croatian Football Association (HNS). The HNS is responsible for the administration and organization of the league, including the scheduling of matches and the distribution of television rights. The league is also responsible for the promotion and relegation of teams between the first and second divisions.
The Second NL is an important part of Croatian football and provides a platform for teams to compete for promotion to the top flight. The league is also an important source of revenue for the clubs, as it provides them with the opportunity to generate income from television rights and sponsorships.
