The 3. Division in Denmark is the fourth tier of the Danish football league system. It was founded in 1991 and is administered by the Danish Football Association (DBU). The 3. Division is divided into two regional leagues, the East and West divisions, each with 16 teams.
The first 3. Division season was played in 1991 and featured a total of 32 teams. The East and West divisions were formed in 1993 and have remained unchanged since then. The top two teams from each division are promoted to the 2. Division, while the bottom two teams are relegated to the Denmark Series.
The 3. Division is a semi-professional league and is the lowest level of the Danish football league system where players can be paid. The teams in the 3. Division are mostly amateur clubs, but some have professional players. The league is supported by sponsors, and the teams receive a small amount of money from the DBU.
The 3. Division is an important part of Danish football and provides a platform for amateur clubs to compete against each other and develop their players. It is also a great opportunity for young players to gain experience and move up the ranks of the Danish football league system.
The 2022 season of the 3. Division Denmark has kicked off on 6th August 2022 and will conclude on 10th April 2023. 12 teams are competing for the championship title and, so far, 132 out of 96 matches have been played. The current standings show that the top three teams are separated by 7 points, with Middelfart in the lead with 38 points, followed by Silkeborg KFUM and Silkeborg KFUM with 31 points each. However, there are still 36 matches left to be played, so the outcome of the season is far from certain. The remaining matches will be crucial for the teams’ success, as the competition is tight and the standings can change drastically. It will be interesting to see how the season develops and which team will be crowned the champion.
