League Two, formerly known as the Football League Third Division, was established in 1920 as the third tier of the English football league system. It was initially composed of 22 teams, with the first games taking place on 28th August 1920. The first champions were Birmingham City, who went on to be promoted to the Second Division.
The Football League Third Division was renamed the Football League Second Division in 1958, and then the Football League Third Division in 1992. It was rebranded as League Two in 2004, with the addition of two new teams, bringing the total number of teams to 24.
The current structure of League Two is based on a system of promotion and relegation. The top three teams in the division are promoted to the Football League One, while the bottom four teams are relegated to the National League. The teams that finish in fourth to seventh place enter a play-off competition to determine the fourth team to be promoted.
League Two is currently sponsored by Sky Bet, and is managed by the English Football League. The current champions are Swindon Town, who were promoted to League One in the 2020/21 season.
The 2022 season of the English Football League Two has already kicked off on July 30th, 2022 and will conclude on May 6th, 2023. 24 teams are competing for the title, with 552 out of 313 matches already played. At the moment, the top three teams are separated by 7 points, with Leyton Orient leading the standings with 45 points, followed by Stevenage with 40 points and Stevenage with 38 points. However, there are still 239 matches left to be played, so the standings could change drastically over the course of the season. It’s still early days, but the competition looks to be wide open. With 239 matches still to be played, any of the 24 teams could still be in with a chance of taking the title. It’s sure to be an exciting season, and we can’t wait to see how it all plays out.The League Two in England is a football competition that began in 2004. The inaugural winner was Yeovil Town.
