Origins and Foundation of Isthmian North Football League
The Isthmian North Football League is a football league in England, part of the National League System. It was founded in 1979, when the Isthmian League Division One was split into two regional divisions, North and South. The North division was initially made up of 20 teams, with the original clubs being: Barking, Basildon United, Boreham Wood, Cheshunt, Clapton, Enfield, Grays Athletic, Harlow Town, Heybridge Swifts, Hornchurch, Leytonstone, Maldon Town, Romford, Saffron Walden Town, Tilbury, Walthamstow Avenue, Ware, Wivenhoe Town, Witham Town and Woodford Town.
The first season of the Isthmian North Football League saw Harlow Town crowned champions, with Tilbury and Basildon United finishing second and third respectively. Since then, the league has grown to include 22 teams, with the most recent additions being Brentwood Town, Hullbridge Sports and Stansted.
The league is managed by the Isthmian League Management Committee, which consists of representatives from each of the clubs in the league. The committee is responsible for the day-to-day running of the league, including setting fixtures, deciding on disciplinary action and deciding on promotions and relegations.
