The Meistriliiga is the top division of Estonian football, and the oldest professional sports league in the country. Founded in 1992, the league has been the highest level of football in Estonia since then.
The first Meistriliiga season was played in 1992, with six teams competing. The league was founded by the Estonian Football Association, with the first games being played on April 18th, 1992. The Meistriliiga is governed by the Estonian Football Association, which is responsible for the organization of the league, as well as the promotion and regulation of the sport in the country. The association also organizes the Estonian Cup, which is the national cup competition.
The 2022 Meistriliiga season ended on 2022-11-27 with Flora Tallinn claiming the title after winning 31 out of 36 matches. The top three teams in the standings were separated by a mere 32 points. The season’s best players were Zakaria Beglarishvili, who scored an impressive 21 goals, Robi Saarma with 16 goals, and Sten Reinkort with 15 goals. It was a successful season for the Meistriliiga, with Flora Tallinn emerging as the champions.The Meistriliiga Estonia is the top-tier football competition in Estonia. The top two teams qualify for the UEFA Champions League Qualification main tournament or preliminary qualifications.
