Division d’Honneur: A Brief History
Division d’Honneur is the top tier of football in Guadeloupe. It was founded in 1951 and is currently composed of 10 teams. The league is organized by the Guadeloupe Football League (Ligue Guadeloupéenne de Football).
The first season of Division d’Honneur began in 1951 with six teams: Club Franciscain, CS Moulien, Golden Star, Racing Club de Basse-Terre, USR Pointe-Noire, and USR Sainte-Rose. The first game was between Club Franciscain and CS Moulien, with Club Franciscain winning 1-0.
The league has grown over the years, and now includes 10 teams. The teams are divided into two groups of five, with each team playing the other four teams in its group twice. The top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals, with the winners of the semifinals playing in the championship game. The champion of the Division d’Honneur is awarded the Coupe de Guadeloupe.
The league is managed by the Guadeloupe Football League, which is responsible for the organization and promotion of the league. The league also organizes the Coupe de Guadeloupe, a knockout tournament for teams in the Division d’Honneur.
Division d’Honneur is an important part of the football culture in Guadeloupe, and it continues to grow and evolve. The league provides a platform for the best players in the country to showcase their talents, and it is a source of pride for the people of Guadeloupe.
The 2022 season of the Division d’Honneur Guadeloupe kicked off on August 27th, 2022 and will conclude on February 12th, 2023. Ten teams are competing for the championship, with 144 out of the 112 matches already played.
