The Hungarian National Football League II (NB II) is the second tier of professional football in Hungary. It was founded in 1901 as the Hungarian National Championship, and was later renamed the Hungarian National Football League II in 1952. The league is currently composed of 16 teams and is organized into two divisions.
The first game of the Hungarian National Championship was played in 1901 between Ferencváros and Újpest. Ferencváros won the match 3-2, and the Hungarian National Championship was born. Over the years, the league has grown and evolved, and in 1952 it was renamed the Hungarian National Football League II.
The corporate structure of the NB II is overseen by the Hungarian Football Association (MLSZ). The MLSZ is responsible for the organization and administration of the league, and is also responsible for the promotion and relegation of teams between the NB II and the top-tier Hungarian National Football League I. The MLSZ also organizes the Hungarian Cup, which is an annual knockout tournament for teams in the NB II.
The NB II is an important part of Hungarian football, and provides a platform for teams to compete for promotion to the top tier of Hungarian football. The league also serves as a stepping stone for talented players to move into higher levels of the game.
The 2022 NB II Hungary season has just kicked off on July 31st, 2022 and is set to end on May 21st, 2023. 20 teams are currently vying for the championship, with 380 out of the 200 matches already played. The top three teams in the standings are currently separated by 6 points, with Diosgyori VTK leading the pack with 40 points, followed by Pécsi MFC and Pécsi MFC with 36 and 34 points respectively. However, there is still a lot of football to be played, with 180 matches still to be played. The Magyar Labdarugo Szovetseg is the official organization in charge of the Hungarian football league, NB II. The organization has partnered with several television networks to broadcast the games, including M4 Sport, Sport1, and Digi Sport. This partnership has allowed the league to reach a wider audience and gain more exposure.
