The NB III - Keleti Football League in Hungary was founded in the summer of 1927. It was the third tier of the Hungarian football league system and was initially known as the Third Division. It was created to provide a platform for teams from the eastern part of the country to compete in a competitive football league.
The first matches of the NB III - Keleti Football League were played in the summer of 1927. The teams that competed in the inaugural season were: Ujpest FC, Szeged FC, Ferencvaros FC, Szolnok FC, Bekescsaba FC, and Debrecen FC. The first ever champion of the league was Ujpest FC, who won the title by two points over Szeged FC.
Since its inception, the NB III - Keleti Football League has grown to include teams from all over Hungary. The league is currently made up of 16 teams, split into two divisions. The teams compete in a double round-robin format, with the top two teams from each division advancing to the playoffs. The winner of the playoffs is crowned the champion of the league.
The NB III - Keleti Football League is governed by the Hungarian Football Association and is part of the Hungarian football pyramid. The league is divided into two divisions, the East and the West, and is managed by the Hungarian Football League. The league is also affiliated with UEFA, and the teams that win the playoffs are eligible to compete in the UEFA Europa League.
The 2022-2023 NB III - Keleti Hungary season has just kicked off on July 31, 2022 and is set to conclude on May 21, 2023. A total of 20 teams are competing for the championship and 380 out of 200 matches have already been played. The top three teams in the standings are currently separated by 15 points, with BVSC leading the pack with 49 points, followed by Putnok VSE and Putnok VSE with 39 and 34 points respectively. However, there are still 180 matches left to be played, meaning that the standings could still change drastically. It will be interesting to see how the remaining matches play out, and who will be crowned champions by the end of the season.
