Origins and Foundation of Serie A
The Italian Football Championship, or Serie A, is the top-tier professional football league in Italy. It was founded in 1898, making it one of the oldest football leagues in the world. The league is contested by 20 clubs and is organized by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).
First Games of Serie A
The first games of Serie A were played on 8 May 1898. The first season saw nine teams competing for the title, with Genoa CFC emerging as the first champions. Since then, the league has grown to include 20 teams, with the most recent addition being Benevento Calcio in 2017.
Corporate Structure of Serie A
Serie A is managed by the Lega Serie A, which is a joint-venture company owned by the 20 clubs in the league. The Lega Serie A is responsible for the organization and marketing of the league. It also sets the rules and regulations that the clubs must adhere to. The Lega Serie A also oversees the distribution of television and sponsorship revenue among the clubs.
The 2022/2023 Serie A season has kicked off on the 13th of August 2022 and is set to conclude on the 4th of June 2023. 20 teams are competing for the championship, with 380 out of 179 matches already played. The top three teams in the standings are currently separated by 10 points, with Napoli at the top with 41 points, AC Milan in second with 33 points and Inter Milan in third with 31 points. However, with 201 matches still to be played, the competition is far from over. The Serie A is the top-tier football competition in Italy, first established in 1898. The teams are placed in 3 tables, with a promotion and relegation system for the best and worst-performing teams. The last 3 teams are relegated to the Serie B. Each team plays a total of 386 games in one season, and the team with the most points at the end of the season is crowned the winner. The top 4 teams qualify for the Champions League main tournament or preliminary qualifications, while an additional 2 teams qualify for the Europa League tournament or preliminary qualifications.
The largest stadium in the Italian Serie A is Internazionale/Milan, with a total capacity of 80,018. During the 21/22 season, the highest attendance per game was 78,725, which was recorded during the match between Internazionale and AC Milan. Across the entire season, the total attendance was 9,199,649, with an average attendance per game of 24,931.
The Brasileiro Série A is the top tier of professional football in Brazil, and is managed by the Confederação Brasileira de Futebol. The league’s largest TV partners are Rede Globo, SporTV, and Premiere.
