The Super Liga in Moldova: A Brief History
The Super Liga in Moldova is the top-tier professional football league in the country. It was founded in 1992, just after Moldova declared independence from the Soviet Union. The first season of the Super Liga was contested by 8 teams, all from the capital city of Chisinau. The teams were: Constructorul Chisinau, FC Costuleni, FC Dacia Chisinau, FC Iskra-Stal Rîbniţa, FC Nistru Otaci, FC Saxan Ceadîr-Lunga, FC Speranţa Nisporeni, and FC Zimbru Chişinău.
The first game of the Super Liga was played on April 19, 1992, between Constructorul Chisinau and FC Costuleni. Constructorul Chisinau won the match 2-1. The first season ended with Constructorul Chisinau as the champions, and FC Costuleni finishing in second place. Since then, the Super Liga has grown to include 14 teams, and is now the most popular football league in Moldova.
The corporate structure of the Super Liga is overseen by the Moldovan Football Federation (MFF). The MFF is responsible for organizing the league and ensuring that it is run in accordance with the rules and regulations set forth by FIFA. The MFF also appoints referees and match officials, and ensures that the teams are adequately funded and have the necessary resources to compete.
