The A Division Football League is the top-tier professional football league in Nepal. It was founded in 2000, with the first matches being played in 2001. The league is organized by the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), the governing body of football in Nepal.
The league is composed of 12 teams, which play each other twice in a season, once at home and once away. At the end of the season, the top four teams qualify for the playoffs, with the winner being crowned the champion. The bottom two teams are relegated to the B Division, while the team that finishes in 11th place has to play a relegation playoff against the runner-up of the B Division.
The league has seen some major changes over the years, including the addition of a second division, the B Division, in 2006. In 2010, the league was restructured to include a promotion/relegation system and a split season format, with the top six teams playing each other twice in the first half of the season and the bottom six teams playing each other twice in the second half of the season.
The A Division Football League has become increasingly popular in Nepal over the years, with the league attracting some of the best players from around the country. It is now one of the most competitive and entertaining football leagues in South Asia.
