The Liga I, or the Romanian First Division, is the top tier of the Romanian football league system. It was founded in 1909 and is currently contested by 14 teams. The Liga I is one of the oldest football leagues in Europe and has been a part of the Romanian football landscape for over a century.

The Liga Profesionistă de Fotbal (LPF) is the official organization in charge of the Romanian football league, Liga I. The LPF is responsible for the organization and management of the league, including the scheduling of matches, the selection of referees, and the distribution of television rights. The LPF has a number of television partners, including Digi Sport, Look TV, and Telekom Sport, who broadcast Liga I matches to viewers across Romania.
