Liga II, formerly known as Divizia B, is the second tier of Romanian professional football. The league was founded in 1934, and is currently contested by 18 teams. It is organized by the Romanian Football Federation.
The first season of Liga II was contested by 16 teams, with the inaugural champions being FCM Reșița. Since then, the league has expanded to 18 teams, with the most recent expansion taking place in 2019. The current champions are FC Argeș Pitești, who won the 2019-20 season.
Liga II is split into two regional divisions, the Seria I and the Seria II. Each division is made up of nine teams, with the top four teams from each division advancing to the promotion playoffs. The winner of the playoffs is promoted to Liga I, while the bottom two teams in each division are relegated to the Liga III.
Liga II is managed by the Romanian Football Federation, which is responsible for the organization and regulation of the league. The league is sponsored by the Romanian Football Association and is broadcast on television and radio throughout Romania.
