The Slovak Football League 2. Liga (SFL 2. Liga) was founded in 1993, as a part of the Slovak Football Association (SFZ). The league was created to provide a platform for clubs from the second tier of Slovak football to compete for promotion to the top-tier Slovak Super Liga. Initially, the league was composed of 12 teams, but has since grown to include 16 teams.
The first season of the SFL 2. Liga was played in 1993–94, with the inaugural match taking place on August 14, 1993 between ŠKP Inter Bratislava and FC Nitra. The first season saw Inter Bratislava crowned champions and promoted to the top-tier Slovak Super Liga. The following season, 1994–95, saw FC Nitra win the league and gain promotion to the top-tier.
The SFL 2. Liga is currently structured as a double round-robin tournament, with each team playing every other team twice, once at home and once away. At the end of the season, the top two teams are promoted to the top-tier Slovak Super Liga, while the bottom two teams are relegated to the third-tier Slovak 3. Liga.
The SFL 2. Liga is managed by the Slovak Football Association (SFZ), which is responsible for the organization and regulation of all professional football in Slovakia. The SFZ also oversees the Slovak Super Liga and the Slovak 3. Liga.
The 2022 season of the 2. Liga Slovakia kicked off on July 15th, 2022 and will conclude on May 19th, 2023. Sixteen teams are competing for the championship, with 240 matches out of the total 136 already played. The top three teams in the standings are currently separated by 8 points, but there are still 104 matches left to be played. Tatran Prešov currently leads the standings with 36 points, followed by FK Košice with 33 points and FK Košice with 28 points. With 104 matches still to be played, the standings could still change drastically. The 2. Liga Slovakia is sure to be an exciting competition to watch as teams battle for the championship.The 2. Liga Slovakia was first established in 1993, with Partizán Bardejov as the inaugural league winner. The teams are placed in one table, with a promotion and relegation system for the best and worst-performing teams. The best team is promoted to the Superliga, while the worst team is relegated to the 2. Liga. For the 22/23 season, 1. FC Tatran Prešov, MFK Dolný Kubín, FK Rača Bratislava, MŠK Považská Bystrica, and MSK Zilina B were promoted to the 2. Liga, while FK Pohronie were relegated. Each team plays a total of 22 games in one season, and the team with the most points at the end of the season is declared the winner.
The largest stadium in the Slovakian Football League 2. Liga is KFC Komarno, with a total capacity of 13,200. This stadium is the largest in the league, and is home to some of the most passionate fans in the country. The atmosphere at KFC Komarno is electric, and the stadium is often filled to capacity for big games. The team has a loyal following, and the stadium is a great place to watch a match.
The Slovak Football Association (SFZ) is the official organization in charge of the Football League 2. Liga Slovakia. The league is broadcasted by several TV partners, including RTVS, Sport 1, and Orange Sport.
