The Slovenian Football League 1 (SNL) is the top professional football league in Slovenia. It was founded in 1991, shortly after the country declared independence from Yugoslavia. The league currently has 12 teams competing for the title and the league is divided into two divisions, the Championship and the Relegation.
The first season of the SNL was played in 1991-1992, with seven teams competing. The first champions were NK Olimpija Ljubljana, who won the title in the inaugural season. Since then, the league has grown and expanded, with more teams joining and more games being played.
The league is structured so that the top six teams in the Championship division qualify for the Championship playoffs, while the bottom six teams in the Championship division are relegated to the Relegation division. The top two teams in the Relegation division are then promoted to the Championship division for the following season.
The SNL is managed by the Football Association of Slovenia, who are responsible for the organization and regulation of the league. The league is also supported by the Slovenian Football Federation, which is responsible for the promotion and development of football in Slovenia.
The SNL is one of the most competitive leagues in Europe and has produced some of the best players in the world. The league has also seen some of the best teams in Europe compete for the title, including NK Olimpija Ljubljana, NK Maribor, and NK Domžale.
The 2022 SNL Slovenia season has officially kicked off on July 16th, 2022 and will come to a close on May 20th, 2023. Ten teams are currently competing for the championship title and 180 out of a total of 100 matches have already been played. The top three teams in the standings are currently separated by 13 points, with Olimpija Ljubljana leading the way with 43 points, followed by Mura and Mura with 30 points each. However, there are still 80 matches left to be played, so the championship is still up for grabs. It’s sure to be an exciting end to the season as all ten teams battle it out for the championship title. With 80 matches still to be played, anything can happen. Who will come out on top? We’ll have to wait and see.The PrvaLiga is the top tier of Slovenian football, with the first edition taking place in 1991 when Olimpija were crowned champions. The teams are placed in one table, with the top 1 teams qualifying for the Champions League Qualification main tournament or preliminary qualifications, and the additional 3 teams qualifying for the Europa League Qualification tournament or preliminary qualifications. The bottom 1 teams are relegated to the 2. SNL. Each team plays a total of 1 games in one season, with the winner being the team with the most points at the end of the season.
The largest stadium in the Slovenian PrvaLiga is Olimpija Ljubljana, with a total capacity of 16,038. During the 21/22 season, the highest attendance per game was 7,500, which was during the match between NK Maribor and NŠ Mura.
