Football League 2 in Slovenia: A Brief History
Football League 2 in Slovenia, also known as the Slovenian Second Division or SNL, was founded in 1991, shortly after the country declared independence from Yugoslavia. The league is composed of 16 teams, all of whom compete for the title of Slovenian Second Division Champion. The top two teams from each season are promoted to the Slovenian First Division, while the bottom two teams are relegated to the Slovenian Third Division.
The first games of the Slovenian Second Division were played in the 1991-92 season. The inaugural season featured 16 teams, with NK Primorje winning the title. The following season saw NK Primorje retain their title, becoming the first team to win back-to-back titles in the Slovenian Second Division.
The corporate structure of the Slovenian Second Division is overseen by the Football Association of Slovenia. The league is divided into two divisions, with each division containing eight teams. The teams play each other twice during the season, with the top two teams from each division advancing to the promotion playoffs. The winner of the promotion playoffs is then promoted to the Slovenian First Division.
The Slovenian Second Division is an important part of the Slovenian football system, providing a platform for young players to develop their skills and gain experience. The league also serves as a stepping stone for teams to reach the Slovenian First Division and compete for the Slovenian Championship.
The Slovenian PrvaLiga season 2022 is well underway, with the season kicking off on July 31st, 2022 and concluding on May 20th, 2023. Sixteen teams are competing for the championship, and after 240 out of the 144 matches have already been played, the top three teams are separated by just six points. Leading the standings is Rogaška with 43 points, closely followed by Aluminij and Aluminij with 39 and 37 points respectively. However, with 96 matches still to be played, it is still anyone’s game. The excitement of the Slovenian PrvaLiga season 2022 continues to build, and it promises to be an exciting finish. The Football League 2 in Slovenia is officially organized by the National Football Association of Slovenia (NZS). The league is broadcasted on three major TV networks: Sportklub, Arena Sport, and Planet Sport.
