Vysshaya Liga: The Tajikistan Football League
The Vysshaya Liga, or Tajikistan Football League, was founded in 1992, shortly after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. It was the first professional football league in the newly independent nation. The league was initially composed of eight teams, all of which were based in the capital city of Dushanbe. The first season of the league featured a round-robin format, with each team playing the other seven teams twice.
In the following years, the league expanded to include teams from other cities in Tajikistan, and the number of teams in the league increased to twelve. The league also adopted a two-division system, with the top six teams in each division competing for the championship in the playoffs. The league also began to introduce relegation and promotion, allowing teams to move up and down between divisions.
Today, the Vysshaya Liga is composed of sixteen teams, with the top two teams from each division qualifying for the playoffs. The league also features a promotion/relegation system, with the bottom two teams in each division being relegated to the lower division and the top two teams in the lower division being promoted to the top division. The league is managed by the Tajikistan Football Federation, which is responsible for organizing and managing the league.
The Vysshaya Liga has become one of the most popular leagues in Tajikistan, and is widely considered to be one of the best football leagues in Central Asia. The league has produced some of the nation’s best players, and has been a major factor in the growth of the sport in the country.
The 2022 Vysshaya Liga season came to a close on 2022-11-27 with Fayzkand crowned champions after winning 8 matches from 22. The final standings saw only 3 points separate the top three, with Fayzkand claiming the title, followed by Regar-TadAZ in second and Istaravshan in third. The season was a closely fought affair, with the top three teams all challenging for the title until the final weeks of the season. Fayzkand’s 8 wins from 22 matches was enough to secure them the title, and the team will now look to build on their success in the upcoming season. The 2022 Vysshaya Liga season was an exciting one, with the top three teams providing plenty of drama and entertainment. Congratulations to Fayzkand for their success and best of luck to all the teams in the upcoming season.
