The Persha Liga is the second tier of professional football in Ukraine. It was founded in 1992, shortly after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The first season of the Persha Liga was held in 1992-93, with 12 teams competing for the title.
The league is organized by the Professional Football League of Ukraine (PFLU), which is a member of the Football Federation of Ukraine (FFU). The PFLU is responsible for the organization of the league, as well as the promotion and relegation of teams between the Persha Liga and the Ukrainian Premier League.
The league is divided into two groups, with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the promotion playoffs. The winners of the playoffs are promoted to the Ukrainian Premier League, while the bottom two teams are relegated to the Druha Liga, the third tier of Ukrainian football.
The Persha Liga has seen many changes over the years, with teams coming and going, and the number of teams fluctuating. The current format of the league consists of 12 teams, with the top two teams being promoted to the Ukrainian Premier League and the bottom two teams being relegated to the Druha Liga.
The Persha Liga is an important part of Ukrainian football, providing a platform for players to develop and progress to the top tier of the game. It is also a great opportunity for clubs to gain promotion to the Ukrainian Premier League, and for the fans to enjoy some exciting football.
The 2022 season of the Ukrainian Persha Liga is off to a great start. The season kicked off on August 27th, 2022 and will run until May 27th, 2023.
