The Football Association of Wales (FAW) Championship is the second tier of professional football in Wales. It was founded in 1992, when the League of Wales was established. The League of Wales was the first national football league in Wales since the old Welsh League folded in the 1920s.
The FAW Championship was initially established with 12 teams, but this number has since grown to 16. The teams are divided into two divisions, North and South, and the top two teams in each division play in the playoffs to decide the overall champion.
The first FAW Championship season was played in the 1992-93 season. The inaugural champions were Barry Town, who went on to win the title three times in the first five years of the competition.
The FAW Championship is governed by the Football Association of Wales, with the FAW Council acting as the governing body. The FAW is responsible for the administration of the league, as well as the promotion and regulation of the sport in Wales.
The FAW Championship is an important part of the Welsh football landscape, providing a platform for young players to develop their skills and gain experience in a competitive environment. It is also an important source of revenue for many of the clubs in the league, as well as providing an opportunity for clubs to gain promotion to the top tier of Welsh football.
The 2022 FAW Championship Wales season has finally kicked off on July 29th, 2022. 16 teams are vying for the championship title and so far, 309 matches have been played out of the 480 total matches. The top three teams in the standings are currently separated by a mere 6 points. Colwyn Bay is leading the pack with 37 points, followed closely by Holywell with 34 and Holywell with 31. However, there are still 171 matches left to be played, so the standings can still change drastically. It’s an exciting season ahead and we can’t wait to see who will come out on top!The Football Association of Wales (FAW) is the official organization in charge of the FAW Championship Wales cup. The FAW is responsible for the organization and management of the cup, as well as for the selection of TV partners to broadcast the matches.
