The Queensland Premier League (QPL) is the top division of football in the state of Queensland, Australia. It was founded in 2008 and is run by Football Queensland.
The QPL was formed as part of Football Queensland’s strategic plan to create a statewide premier competition. The league was created to provide a pathway for talented players to progress to the highest level of football in the state.
The inaugural season of the QPL was held in 2009, with eight teams competing in the league. The teams were Brisbane Strikers, Brisbane Roar, Far North Queensland Bulls, Gold Coast United, Northern Fury, Olympic FC, Redlands United and Sunshine Coast Fire.
The league is run by Football Queensland and is overseen by a Board of Directors. The Board is responsible for the governance of the league and is made up of representatives from Football Queensland, the clubs and other stakeholders.
The QPL is a semi-professional league, with teams competing for the championship title and promotion to the National Premier Leagues. The league is divided into two divisions, the QPL and the QPL Division 2.
The QPL is one of the most competitive leagues in Australia and has produced some of the country’s best players. The league has also produced some of the most successful clubs in the country, including Brisbane Roar, Gold Coast United and Olympic FC.
