The Super Cup in Lithuania was founded in 2012 as the top-tier football league in the country. The league was created with the intention of providing a platform for the best teams in the country to compete against each other. The first season of the Super Cup featured 8 teams, with the first game taking place on April 8th, 2012. The inaugural season saw the Vilnius-based FK Žalgiris win the title.
Since then, the league has grown in stature and now features 12 teams, with the season running from March to November. The teams are split into two groups of six, with the top four teams from each group advancing to the playoffs. The playoffs feature two semi-finals and a final, with the winner of the final being crowned the Super Cup champions.
The Super Cup is organized and administered by the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF). The LFF is responsible for the organization and promotion of the league, as well as the selection of referees and the allocation of television rights. The LFF also organizes the Lithuanian Cup, which is a separate competition from the Super Cup.
The Super Cup has become one of the most popular football leagues in Lithuania and is widely regarded as the best league in the country. The league has produced some of the best players in the country, with many of them going on to represent Lithuania at international level. The league also attracts some of the best coaches in the world, with the likes of former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane and current Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri having coached in the Super Cup.
The Lithuanian Football Federation is the official organization in charge of the Super Cup Lithuania qualifying tournament, and is responsible for managing sponsorship rights. The Federation has also partnered with several television networks to broadcast the tournament, ensuring that fans from around the world can enjoy the action.
